A Cascade of Roses

At Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, you can visit a world famous rose garden that has over 2,400 roses. In this activity, you will create a stunning photo collage of the roses you see there to hang on your wall and remind you of your trip.

Instructions:

After wandering through the Botanical Gardens and checking out the beautiful variety of flowers and plants on display there, head to the rose garden to admire the stunning collection of roses.

With a digital camera, take photos of each different color and variety of rose that you see. Take pictures of open rose blossoms as well as rose buds in every conceivable state of development. Try to take as many photos as possible—the more pictures, the better.

When you print your pictures, crop them so that everything except the rose itself is removed from each photo.

Next, arrange them on a flat surface by color, from lightest to darkest.

Draw a large outline of a rose flower in light pencil on a large piece of card paper.

Then, fill in your picture with your rose photos. Paste the roses onto the card paper. Start with light colored roses at the bottom of the flower, and gradually use darker roses as you go up, saving the darkest roses for the upper tip of the flower.

Conclusion:

The brilliant color of the roses is intensified once they are all displayed together in a concentrated way, and your rose collage will let you lose yourself in their beauty all over again whenever you look at it. If you enjoyed this activity, you might consider making a similar collage when you visit the nearby Butterfly Conservatory.
